Live Music in Safer Environments

New York's live music scene continues to adapt cautiously to the new times. Sadly, Arlene's Grocery and Jazz Standard recently announced that they are set to close permanently unless they get a financial miracle. Blackthorn 51 and Max Fish have surrendered their leases and will seek to reopen in new locations when times are more favorable. Under the radar, however, there is a wave of encouraging news, as the local musicians who are willing to play for live audiences are building a new circuit of showcase venues. In order to match live music with music lovers, restaurant owners are taking extensive precautions for their clienteles' safety, and the audiences have been growing slowly.

Finding this music is challenging since most venues are not advertising and many are booking only a week or two in advance. To plan your next night of live music, consult the December concerts listings on this blog at  http://themanhattanbeat.blogspot.com/p/upcoming-in-december_5.html?m=0. Visit the calendar often, because it is updated daily with new concert dates.

Below are photographs of some of the musicians and venues that have been rocking the town in the past 10 days or so.
