Denny Daniel is a collector of odd and vintage things. He is also the curator of the Museum of Interesting Things, a traveling collection of cool stuff you wish grandma had wrapped in protective plastic for you. Periodically Daniel assembles a show based on a theme, which he presents to both a live and an online audience. He calls the series the Secret Speakeasy.
Tonight's theme was entitled the Holiday Bouncing Ball Sing-A-Long! Daniel showed 16mm reel-to-reel movie shorts from the 1940s to the 1960s where lyrics accompanied the visuals, interspersed with a live singalong. He invited the Head Peddlers to lead the singalong, but half of the group, Karl Bateman, felt sick and had to stay home. The other half, Elizabeth Ruf Maldonado, sang and played guitar while Daniel held the lyric sheets to his laptop's camera so his virtual audience could sing along. The program concluded with all in attendance opening the museum's mail to unveil its recent acquisitions. Videos of this "unboxing," as Daniel calls it, can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7fiJMx2878 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceewoxqdkzg.
