Live Music Out in the Cold

Winter weather and pandemic spread cannot stop the rhythms of our city. Local musicians are New York tough. Here are some scenes from the past 10 cold-weather days.

Restaurants used to open their doors to customers, but governmental restrictions prohibit this right now. When a door shuts, open a window. Many musicians are performing inside restaurants through open windows for audiences seated outside.

Theaters throughout New York City have been closed for the past 10 months. The Theater for the New City has initiated its Open 'Tho Shut series on Saturday afternoons, where musicians and spoken word artists perform in the theater's driveway for a standing or seated public on the sidewalk. The programs are streamed on the venue's website.

Finally, in milder weather, some local musicians continue to perform in the most traditional manner, outdoors alongside their audiences.
