The City Winery franchise will expand to five new locations by the summer of 2022, including an additional location in New York City. This local site so far remains undisclosed, however. Michael Dorf, City Winery founder and CEO, identified it only as "a special restaurant and performance space in an iconic New York City location."

The four new restaurants outside of New York City will open this summer in the Foundry in St. Louis, the Terminal in Pittsburgh, on South High Street in Columbus, and in the historic district of Corktown in Detroit. This expansion will almost double the City Winery footprint, which presently operates in eight locations. Dorf further projected the opening of an additional eight locations in 2023.

“While the pandemic may have paused us and so many other gathering businesses, we are very grateful to have strong demand for our unique combination of live entertainment, great wine and food and be able to bring it to more cities nationwide,” Dorf announced in a press release today. “We have big plans to continue expanding with another eight locations in the works for 2023.”

Dorf opened the New York City flagship of City Winery in the Hudson Square section of Soho in 2008. City Winery NYC in 2021 relocated to its current location at Pier 57 in the Meatpacking district of Chelsea. It also operates City Vineyard at Pier 26 in the TriBeCa neighborhood and a Wine Garden in Rockefeller Center. In addition to its New York City base, City Winery currently has locations in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Nashville, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and the Hudson Valley.

Prior to opening the first City Winery, Dorf operated the Knitting Factory. That music venue similarly expanded and opened Knitting Factory franchises in other cities. The New York establishment moved several times, and presently is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Neither Dorf nor City Winery has retained any connection to the Knitting Factory.
