Originally from Buffalo, New York, Willie Nile relocated to Greenwich Village in the 1970s, where he became a regular on the folk circuit. Quickly absorbing the New York spirit, he transitioned from folkie to rocker. Thoroughly a New Yorker, one of his most recent albums is called New York at Night and the lead song is called "New York Is Rockin'." Nile rocked City Winery NYC on January 7.The Manhattan Beat today spotlights 10 of the outstanding under-the-radar local musicians who during the past few weeks rocked New York City in bars, restaurants and even a subway station.
