From the early 1970s until his death in 1991, Johnny Thunders ruled New York’s underground rock and roll circuit as the guitarist in the New York Dolls, the Heartbreakers and Gang War. Apfel/Krebs/Simone annually presents the Johnny Thunders Birthday Bash at the Bowery Electric, in which local circuit bands pay tribute to Thunders by performing his songs. Normally held on Thunders’ birthday, July 15, a scheduling conflict this year moved the party to July 21.
