The legacy of the Allman Brothers Band might outlive us all. Formed in Florida in 1969, the sextet quickly rose to international superstardom in 1971. Although five of the six original members are deceased, the Allman Brothers Band continues to inspire the modern jam band scene. While many tribute bands have formed in recent years, none can claim the kind of direct lineage engendered by the Allman Betts Band.

Direct descendants of the original Allman Brothers Band ventured into music and formed the Allman Betts Band in 2018. Devon Allman (son of Gregg Allman), Duane Betts (son of Dickey Betts), and Berry Duane Oakley (son of Berry Oakley) led the Allman Betts Band, playing mostly original songs interspersed with covers of Allman Brothers Band songs. The Allman Betts Band released two albums of original music, Down to the River (2019) and Bless Your Heart (2020). The Allman Betts band presently consists of Devon Allman (guitar, vocals), Duane Betts (guitar, vocals), Berry Duane Oakley (bass, vocals), Johnny Stachela (guitar, vocals), John Ginty (keyboards), Alex Orbison (drums, percussion, vocals), and John Lum (drums).

Reportedly inspired by the Band’s The Last Waltz, Allman and Betts launched the Allman Betts Family Revival as a one-time concert in 2017. The original intention was to celebrate what would have been Gregg Allman's 70th birthday. The success of the concert launched a new tradition, with the Allman Betts Band and invited guest musicians touring to honor the legacy and music of the Allman Brothers Band. Pioneered by Allman and Betts, the Allman Betts Family Revival tours assemble diverse blues, rock, and Americana artists for a night of jamming and musical tribute.

The Allman Betts Family Revival’s 2025 stop at the Beacon Theatre featured the Allman Betts Band with guest appearances by Steve Earle, G. Love, Jimmy Hall of southern rock band Wet Willie, Robert Randolph, Sierra Hull, Amanda Shires, Judith Hill, Mattie Schell, and Cody Dickinson and Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars. The tight musicianship during the extended jams and the venue’s extraordinary sound system helped keep the southern rock sound vibrant for two sets across three hours. Devon Allman informed the sold-out audience that this year’s Beacon Theatre performance was being recorded for future release.
