An air of mystery surrounds the fast-rising Sons of Legion. In interviews, the two musicians reveal only limited soundbites about their past. For the most part, their music and their social media speak for them. Sons of Legion is their mouthpiece.
Adam McInnis was born and raised in New York by his evangelist father and his Russian mother, a classically-trained singer. He established a career in sync licensing, with his voice and music featured on television programming and commercials. Searching to find his own voice, rather than committing solely to the projects of others in the music industry, he joined the music scene in Austin and Nashville.
Jack “Daddy Jack” Crenshaw was raised in Texas, where his piano-playing dad owned a honky-tonk bar. Relocating to Los Angeles, Daddy Jack found opportunities as a songwriter and studio producer, building other people’s careers. Like McInnis, he found his way to Nashville.
McInnis and Daddy Jack met through a mutual friend at a songwriter's night in Nashville. They clicked, and committed to collaborating their song crafting and production experiences. Reconnecting at a later time, when both were feeling somewhat empty, they discovered that they had in common a drive to reinvent themselves and create new music that would be entirely personal, heartfelt and truthful. Learning that both were seventh-born sons of their parents, they first considered naming the project Seven Sons, but ultimately broadened their scope to Sons of Legion in order to further integrate themselves into a growing circle of fans. Sons of Legion is now more than its creators; it has evolved into a bonded community.
Aside from professional management and a booking agent, Sons of Legion has embraced a DIY ethos. Avoiding industry protocol, the band has no recording contract or publicist. Sons of Legion compose, perform, produce, mix, and master all its own product.
The band released its debut album, Outlaw, in 2022. The most recent release, a five-song 2026 EP called Power, is available as a free download on the band’s website. The band's music has been featured on ESPN broadcasts, Dodge Ram commercials, Netflix productions, and NBC programming.
Sons of Legion was booked for a national tour in 2025, which included two nights at Mercury Lounge. The tour needed to be canceled when Daddy Jack had emergency surgery to remove a mass blocking his airway. For several months, he endured a difficult recovery involving throat and sinus reconstruction, which impacted his ability to breathe and sing. He recovered enough to embark on Sons of Legion’s current 52-city world tour, which included two nights at the Bowery Ballroom. On this tour, McInnis and Daddy Jack are accompanied by four musicians on guitar, keyboards, bass and drums.
The general demographics at the Bowery Ballroom shows were older than the typical concerts there. Sons of Legion’s rock and soul sound had its pop hooks in the choruses, but by and large the music resonated as classic rock. Thought-provoking lyrics spoke from and to the heart and ignited the spirit. Richly soulful singing punctuated these profound lyrics of resilience and hope. Melodic led guitar lines swept the songs upwards. Between-song rapport gave insight into the struggles that gave birth to the songs and communicated honest appreciation for the supportive audience. Kinetic projections on a screen in the background offered the music additional flavor. Bright lights and clean sound allowed the fans to dig deeper into the performance. For those who allowed their emotions to be touched, the performance became an intimate communal experience, cementing a strong connection between the band and the audience. If anything was lacking, it might have been that more fast rockers would have raised the temperature of the room.
Towards the end of the performance, Sons of Legion acknowledged that much of the music’s reach so far has been accomplished through supporters’ word of mouth and social media posts. The musicians encouraged the fans to continue sharing the music and inviting uninitiated friends to join the community. In today’s highly polished music industry, eliminating the hype machinery is a radically simplified method of promoting music. Everything about Sons of Legion is generated by independence, integrity, honesty and authenticity. This band is inching towards mainstream fame via the purest yet most unorthodox highway. That in itself is a mystery.
