Superstar musicians get lucrative gigs, they get played on radio, they charge $50 for a t-shirt. Meanwhile, talented yet overlooked local musicians pass a bucket at their shows, hoping to earn enough cash to take their equipment home in a taxi cab. Life is rough for up-and-coming musicians.

New York is home to many outstanding and creative musicians, but they struggle for bookings and count on their best friends to help them haul their equipment to shows. Nevertheless, they perform live because they want very much for the local music community to hear their music. Here are just a few of the locals that played small venues in the past few week. They would love for you and your friends to enjoy their next area performance.
