City Winery and Other Music Venues Announce April Re-openings

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on March 3 that event, arts and entertainment venues in New York State can end a year-long shutdown and reopen at 33 percent capacity beginning April 2. In addition, domestic travelers, including musicians, crews and spectators, will be free to cross state lines without quarantining, allowing many entertainment tours to start. With the relaxation of these Covid-era regulations, several now-shuttered New York City venues will re-open in April.

City Winery NY

City Winery NY will reopen for dinner on March 15 and for concerts on April 2. Rufus Wainwright will perform two shows each night on April 6 and 7, Joseph Arthur will perform on April 8, Raul Malo will perform two shows on April 17, Martin Sexton will perform two shows on April 24, and the Southside Johnny Trio featuring Jeff Kazee and Neal Pawley will perform on April 27, 28 and 29. Keb' Mo' and other artists will perform in May.

Rufus Wainwright will perform solo from his "Early Rufus" catalogue at the 7 p.m. shows and "Later Rufus" at the 9:30 p.m. shows; tickets range from $110 to $125 for these performances. Joseph Arthur tickets are $22 to $28. Raul Malo tickets are $65 to $85. Both Martin Sexton and Southside Johnny Trio tickets are $60 to $65.

City Winery NY will sell tickets for all performances as unique table groupings of two to six; unaffiliated parties will not be seated at the same table. Single parties may purchase balcony tickets. All seating will be general admission within each ticket tier. The venue recommends that guests reserve earlier than show time in order to get the best seats and enjoy a pre-show dinner.

All ticketholders will have a temperature check upon arrival. The venue recommends that guests expedite their entrance by downloading the CLEAR app and completing the questionnaire prior to arrival, bypassing the in-person health screening. All other guests will complete a contactless temperature check and wellness questionnaire prior to entering the venue.

All guests must wear a face covering when entering and moving throughout public areas. Face coverings may be removed upon seating. At table, patrons can use contactless ordering and payment for food and drinks.

The Bowery Electric

Jesse Malin will re-launch live and in-venue ticketed concerts at a club he co-owns, the Bowery Electric, by performing four concerts with his band on April 2 and 3. Doors will open both nights at 6:30 p.m. for the early show and 9:15 p.m. for the late show. Tickets are on sale for $30, and all ticketholders will receive a signed Jesse Malin poster.

COVID protocols will be observed. The maximum capacity for each of Malin's performances will be 50 ticketholders. Ticketholders will be seated at assigned tables separated by Plexiglas dividers, and social distancing will be maintained between seating areas, as well as between the seating areas and the stage.

The Bowery Electric will offer food and beverage discounts to all guests who provide confirmation of any of the following.

  • completion of the Covid-19 vaccination series at least 14 days prior to the concert date, or
  • a negative COVID test taken within three days of the concert date (rapid tests welcome!).

The Bowery Electric staff will clear the main room between Malin's early and late shows. After the shows, fans can enjoy a happy hour in the upstairs bar.
